love and soap Right in the heart of Kansas City’s busy arts district is this quiet little soap company, where prayer and intention are a part of every batch and the products are pure bliss. A 2-year old can often be found playing on the floor, and farmers from the market across the street regularly stop in to say hello. The woman blending essential oils at the sprawling work table is Jen Denslow (oh, and the toddler is her son). I began my healing journey when I followed bands like the Dead, Phish and String Cheese Incident as they toured the country. Living joyously and simply, I was inspired by alternative ideas and sustainable visions. (On the road, bottles of echinacea, tea tree, and lavender oils and a powerful amethyst made up the best first aid kit.) Later, I worked in natural foods stores and studied native plants in Georgia, Vermont, and Colorado before the returning home to Kansas City where I apprenticed with Kahla Wheeler at Prairie Wise Herbal School. When my father died
of cancer, I saw firsthand the long-term effects of toxins on the
body. My own chemical sensitivity and years in the natural foods
industry taught me to become an obsessive label reader. I also craved
great body care products, but unfortunately, even among “natural”
and “organic” brands, it’s a challenge to find
authentically clean body care. I can assure you that at Blooming
Lotus, natural and organic are not marketing buzzwords -- they are
a way of life. Blooming Lotus is a very young company, and this
is just the beginning. I have notebooks full of ideas and formulations
to offer you. May we manifest peace, health, and balance on this
